Train Tracks and Paranormal Activity

There are extensive urban legends and paranormal stories involving train tracks all around the world.

One paranormal legend in New Jersey is of the Hookerman in Flanders, NJ.

Trains were and still are a major mode of transportation. In the United States, during the industrial revolution, many train tracks were made to move raw goods, mostly iron ore, lumbar, and other minerals, out of rural areas into urban centers or to transport people or goods across the nation. These tracks were often left abandoned when the resources ran out, the company went out of business, or the material was no longer in demand. But the tracks were rarely removed. Sometimes abandoned tracks are even deemed “ghost tracks to nowhere”.

There are countless tales and experiences of unexplained sounds, sights, and feelings people seem to associate with train tracks! Whether on railways still in use today or on old or abandoned train tracks, they still seem to carry stories around them.

What is it energetically about train tracks that makes them unsettling to us and why do they seem to attract paranormal activity!?

There are three factors about train tracks, which I believe contribute to the phenomena:

1) They are made from iron and laid on top of stone or wood.

2) They form a linear bidirectional energy pattern.

3) They interrupt the pattern of energy of the land.

Firstly, from an energetic perspective, railroad tracks are generally made from iron or in today’s terms, steel, which is still forged from iron and other elements.

I have talked about iron before. It is an excellent energetic conductor and for centuries it has carried the folklore belief that it protects and at the same time can attract spirits and ghosts. And since it is an energetic conductor, it can readily store energetic information and easily holds events through energetic imprinting.

What does this mean? It means that residual energy or “imprint” of an event can be more readily held in the iron ties and therefore be more present to be experienced in the current timeline by us, here, in the now. This explains why sounds of a “ghost train” or “ghost lights” are common reports on train tracks. These would be residual recordings of trains passing from the past being re-experienced in the present.

It also means that if a traumatic event, such as an injury or crash happened on the train tracks, this event would also be more strongly held and replayed after the actual event.

Not only this, but the rails are “insulated” with stone and or wood underneath them. Both of which materials are also excellent at holding energetic information.

Secondly, these tracks can run for miles and miles in parallel uniform formation to one another and have a bidirectional movement (forwards and backwards). To me this means that their energetic pattern is simple, repetitive, and clear. This is in contrast to complicated or muddled energy such as a forest or metropolitan area, which have lots of energies in all different directions. What the simple stream of linear energy flow of train tracks does is create an energetic tunnel where spirit may find it easier to move about on them or be drawn to them. It’s like an energetic pathway that is even lined by iron making it an even stronger conductor!

Lastly, the patterns of tracks, crisscrossing the landscape can interrupt the natural energetic flow of the land. This is the same with roads, mountains, and rivers. This can also mean that spirits or energy coming up to the tracks, from the sides, will be interrupted and may not be able to traverse over to the other side. Meaning that there may be energies lingering along the edges. In another way, this is similar to how roads act with wildlife as a barrier leading to a disruption of the flow and movement of animal migration patterns. Railroads can act as a disruption to the flow of energy in an area creating imbalance and therefore abnormal energy which can be felt as discomfort, heaviness, or dizziness. I find this effect often occurs at the base of a mountain or along a ridgeline.

Interestingly, homes or properties that have paranormal activity may also be more likely to have train tracks, old or current, nearby. I have recently done a home reading where old train tracks lined the entire side of the property! And many of the mining areas such as Hibernia Mine and The Boonton Gorge also had train tracks that drew my attention during readings!

For these reasons, I believe train tracks can be places where energy, spirit, and the paranormal arise being experienced by the living more easily.
